FAQ
A little clarity goes a long way.
Answers about accounts, contributors, confirmations, and what a Splitsville record does.
What is Splitsville?
Splitsville helps collaborators document song credits, propose composition and songwriting ownership percentages, collect responses, and keep a record of confirmed allocations and later revisions.
Who is Splitsville designed for?
Songwriters, composers, lyricists, producers contributing to a composition, and the people who help them organize credits and songwriting split records.
Do all contributors need accounts?
No. Contributors can open their private email invitation, review the proposal, and respond without creating a Splitsville account. A verified matching account can connect eligible contributor records to its catalog.
Can contributors see everyone’s proposed percentages?
Yes. A review shows the song, revision, all contributors, their creative roles, and every proposed percentage. A contributor’s own share is identified in that complete allocation.
What happens when someone disagrees?
Their disagreement is recorded for that revision, and the record is Disputed rather than Fully Confirmed. Collaborators resolve the issue outside Splitsville. Someone who disagreed can later confirm the unchanged proposal; the earlier disagreement stays in history.
Can confirmed splits be changed?
The song administrator can propose a new revision. Earlier allocations and responses remain in history. Every contributor must reconfirm the new proposal, even if their own percentage did not change. A pending or disputed proposal does not replace the last fully confirmed record.
Does Splitsville register songs with BMI, ASCAP, or other PROs?
No. Recording a PRO affiliation in your profile does not register a composition. Complete any required registrations separately with the relevant organizations.
Does creating a record establish ownership?
Creating, administering, or confirming a Splitsville record does not independently establish legal ownership. Splitsville documents proposed splits, contributor credits, confirmations, disagreements, revisions, and recorded timestamps. It does not independently establish, assign, or transfer copyright ownership and does not prepare legal documents or provide legal services. These records may help provide supporting evidence in a later ownership disagreement or legal dispute; Splitsville does not promise enforceability, admissibility, or a particular legal outcome.
Does Splitsville manage master recording ownership?
No. The launch product focuses on composition and songwriting ownership splits. It does not separately manage master recording ownership, collect royalties, or distribute royalty payments.
Is personal contact information public?
Creator Search shows opted-in professional profile information, not email or phone numbers. Contact sharing is a separate choice, limited to eligible verified collaborators. Private song records, IPIs, and publisher details are not made public by turning on Creator Search.
Can I export my song information?
Yes. Signed-in users can export supported catalog details to CSV. Contributor records include only eligible shared revisions, with private information protected.
How do contributors receive confirmation requests?
The song administrator reviews and sends a private email invitation for the saved revision. Each link has its own expiration date. Opening it never records agreement; the contributor must submit an explicit response.
